BBB North Central Texas Warning: Phony invoices sent to scam businesses

The Better Business Bureau® (BBB) of North Central Texas is raising concerns about the business practices of Web Envy, a company claiming a Garland, TX address on its website. However, BBB has been unable to verify the legitimacy of this entity. Businesses began reporting to BBB Scam Tracker in October of last year and the scam reports continue today. BBB has identified a pattern in the complaints from businesses reporting the following issues with Web Envy:
- Fraudulent invoices. Businesses have received invoices for services they never requested or received. The alleged unauthorized charges are for domain hosting and other web related services.
- Unresponsive customer service. Attempts to contact Web Envy’s customer service have gone unanswered. Businesses report that phone calls and emails have been ignored, making it difficult to resolve disputes or gain clarity on charges.
- Scam allegations. Some businesses suspect Web Envy of attempting to extract money through deceptive practices, such as issuing fake invoices and providing misleading information.
Invoices received by businesses range from $124.99 to $344.25, with some referencing “managed domain services.”
“A phony invoice is a common scam targeting businesses, but it should never be ignored,” said Monica Horton, BBB Spokesperson. “Make sure your business has policies and procedures in place to detect and prevent this type of fraud.” Stay informed and protect your business.
